Jay-Z To Give Cherry Coke Some Fizz

Rapper Jay-Z has reportedly been tapped by the Coca-Cola corporation to help relaunch the company’s flagging Cherry Cola brand.

Jay-Z’s influence in the remix of the brand will range from working a new look for the can, to helping the creative team produce the TV commercials that create brand awareness. He will also appear at the launch on February 7 at New York’s Fashion Week, where Cherry Coke Zero, the lo-cal alternative, will also be launched.

Jameel Spencer, CMO Rocawear, New York was quoted as saying: “It’s his new opportunity to expand his standing in the business world. Besides just recording, he’s making TV commercials and campaigns for brands. Who is better than Coke? They’re the biggest.”

“Jay-Z brings a sense of genuine hip-hop authenticity to the brands,” said Spencer. “His role is helping brands not get it wrong the way McDonald’s did with African Americans rapping about French fries. There’s a reassurance that they won’t appear like an out-of-touch uncle trying to act cool.”

Jay-Z In Bud Commercial

Jay-Z fans may want to stick around for the commercials during the Super Bowl.

Budweiser has filmed a spot for the big game starring the rap mogul and former Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula facing off over a chess-like rendering of a high-tech football game using holographic images. As in past years, the beer company is keeping many of the punch lines a secret until game day.

The rapper, born Shawn Carter, is co-brand director for Budweiser Select and works with the company on marketing programs and advertising development.

Spotlight Turns On Jay-Z Clothing Line

jayz1.jpg

Rapper Jay-Z’s Rocawear clothing line has recently come under fire for using real fur in one of its garments.

The Hunter jacket claims to use fake fur, but the Humane Society of The United States found that it actually contained racoon dog, an animal indigenous to Asia that the group claims are skinned alive for the coats.

A spokesperson for Rocawear made the following statement: “We were not aware that our product included raccoon dog materials. We have immediately instructed all manufacturers and licensees that no product can be produced using this fur. In addition, we have removed those items from our website.”

If this story seems at all familiar…well, it is. Diddy’s name was linked to a similar faux-fur scandal late last year.
